Text: Genesis 18:17-33
What is friendship?
Friendship is a mutual relationship between two persons.
From our Bible reading, God was about to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, but cannot carry out the destruction until he told his friend; Moses what he wanted to do. Before we talk about the benefits of Friendship, let’s examine God as the creator of all both visible and invisible things.
He has power to do whatever he decides to do at any time without anyone questioning His authority but he will never do anything that will hurt his Friends. James 2:23 confirmed friendship between Abraham and God
“And the scripture was fulfilled which saith,
Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for
righteousness:  and he was called the Friend of God”
Abraham’s nephew, (Lot) was living in Sodom at that time and for his sake, Abraham began to negotiate with God concerning the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah if God for the sake of some righteous men would change His mind.
One of the numerous benefits of friendship with God is that, you can negotiate with him whenever the need be.
You can negotiate your destiny with God and you can also negotiate with God on behalf of others. Meanwhile, it is very important to note how to become a friend of God.

Jesus said in Matthew 15:14 “Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you” and in Genesis15:6, the Bible says Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness.
For a man to become a friend of God, he must believe God and keep His commandments. It is also important to note, what the Bible says in James 4:4 …Friendship of the world is enmity with God.
Therefore anyone who desires a friendship with God must forsake sin and the world.  For a reader of this devotional today you too can become a friend of God, if you are not yet His friend, but you can never become His friend until you surrender your life to Jesus Christ and make him your Lord and Savior.
Another benefit you will get from being a friend of God is that, you will never be alone, because He said “..… I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” Heb 13:5. And God is not a man that He should lie, Num 23:19. So because you are His friend, He will be following you to where ever you go and when God be for you, be assured that no one can be against you, there is guarantee for divine security and safety.
In addition, He will put His Holy Spirit in you to be your helper, by this you will be supernaturally empowered to live in the realm that is above the natural realm. You will be living a supernatural life, no devil will be able to oppress you anymore, and you will have authority to command His holy angels and they will obey you whenever you need them, they will be your errand messenger any day, any time.
There are other numerous benefits in the Bible, but two out of them which I regarded as the greatest among others are;

  • You will fulfill your destiny and purpose for coming to this world because you cannot even discovered you purpose if you are not His friend not to talk of fulfilling it.
  • You will not lose your soul to the devil, the Bible says “what shall it profit a man that gain the whole world and lose his soul? As a matter of fact, if you are not for God you are automatically for the devil. Therefore we must seek to be His friend, may the Lord help us to be His friend in Jesus mighty name. (Amen).

Be bless in Jesus name!
