Recently I stumbled on a post and several comments on the need for ‘word’ or ‘grace’ or ‘finished work’ preachers to also demonstrate power, one fellow mischievously referred to 30 days of glory hosted by a preacher I know, which he criticized for having ‘no one standing up from wheel chairs’

It’s obvious amidst the noise of ‘word, doctrine etc’ several are aligning with their old and seeming die hard, rabid -unbridled appetite for showmanship.

First and foremost, the gospel is no sign or wonder, it’s a message
Secondly, miracles, signs and wonders isn’t (aren’t) exclusive to Christianity
And thirdly, Jesus didn’t send us to work miracles, though they do occur as we preach but it’s NOT the message!..

Back to the basics, having anyone follow you and believe you for Miracles is tantamount to breeding a sign seeking generation.

Moses had a crowd which saw Gods power for 40 (Forty years) and amongst millions, just 2(Two), with the exclusion of the children, only two believed the gospel.

Asides Moses, the other two who had the most prominent signs, in the Old Testament were Elijah and Elisha, and very vital is the fact that whilst the latter had a mention of miracles, the former had Jesus mention him once too for 3miracles in the same place (Luke 4:25-27), afterwards an implied rebuke of the latter’s actions in Luke 9:54-56.

It’s of Utmost importance that they had no single utterance or reference as per the Christ’s finished work, not a single mention, save another implied correction of Elijah for being largely ignorant, presumptuous and accusatorial by paul (Romans 11:2-4), then James mention of his prayer attitude (James 5:17-18), which is also commendable.

But as per the gospel, they weren’t referenced at all…

It’s of note that Jesus commended John the Baptist as having more prominence amongst ALL Old Testament prophets (which by inference included Moses and of course Elijah and Elisha), Matthew 11:9-10.

He called him a greater prophet. Yet, he had No Single miracle to his name (John 10:41 KJV)
And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true.

Yet he had the most valid faith message in the Old Testament.

I once heard a prominent preacher disparage john in the early 90s for this, I chuckled unwisely too back then, consenting to such ill advised commentary, now I know better, such commentary has bred the lustful and unchecked appetite for all sorts of results which the man and his tribe have made available to multitudes today.

That said

Jesus’s mission was to save, this and its message wasn’t well received (John1:10-12)

Yet his miracles pulled the most multitude not His message
Some of disciples even abandoned him. This is instructive.

The message, not the miracles, is the exclusivity of Christianity.

When the issue of the gospel to Gentiles was discussed in Acts 15, Something noteworthy occurred

The apostles and Elders, Before listening to testimonies of signs and wonders done by paul and Barnabas

They took time to examine what they taught and preached
That first before showing miracle testimonies!

After Peter’s validation of the ministry, whether the message was scriptural or not, then they listened to the testimonies

Once again, miracles aren’t exclusive to Christianity.

Only the message produces discernment not miracles !!!!!

What distinguished Phillip from Simon the sorcerer was His message – Christ.

Simon had bewitched an entire nation as some have done to whole countries or even continents today, he did it for a long time (Acts 8:10-11 KJV)

[10]To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. [11] And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.

He was called a man of God !

Jesus spoke of False ministers in this regard (Matthew 24:24 KJV)

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Take note of the word ‘great’!

Paul said same (2 Corinthians 11:13-15 KJV)

[13] For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
[14] And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
[15] Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Take note of the term “transformed ”

And this too, (2 Thessalonians 2:9 KJV)

Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

The emphasis of the church is the message !!!

No Apostle made signs and wonders an emphasis of his Letter, none. We shouldn’t.

Coming with these unbridled appetite is the need to perform, Then exaggerate and lie

Many are doing such today

A fellow usually posts lies and half truths testimonies on social media and sadly folks one thought should have dropped their spiritual diapers by now start saying ‘yes sir, that’s what we have been looking for, word and power, not just word’!!!!

They have not outgrown sensationalism and hype, ridiculous testimonies like a fellow claiming to disappear, make a woman become pregnant immediately by Laying hands on her, making a light bulb come on without power supply etc aren’t just ludicrous since it’s the miracle worker himself making such incredible claims, then the mundane calling of phone numbers and dates of births etc .., it goes on and on

It goes without saying that some go into the occult to gain this prominence (let me save such scary and gory details)

The media hype has made some make even testifiers lie and exaggerate. Sad but true

I once witnessed a fellow do this 2001, not knowing I was present till the end of the program, he called me on phone to brandish things that never happened, he still does same today, but has become more successful, with the aid of resources and men.

The church I serve as pastor does see demonstration of God’s power which will numb the minds of many yet we don’t make it a priority to promote it, lest we lose our sense of judgement,

Once after a major outreach with several outstanding Miracles, creative ones with tens of deaf ears opened and the blind and lame healed, the recipients and Friends of such rushed into our services, overflowed the then auditorium, but they were disappointed as we made no capital of it, just had our usual Services, teaching and focusing on our core work, many didn’t return afterwards

We weren’t going to leverage on sensationalism, our local church stands a far chance to do this than many who do so today.
Enough said .

To the power and signs and wonders hungry ‘Grace/finished work’ preacher, let me give you The old Midas legend, of a man who haven met a genie asked to be given such powers that everything he touched turned into gold

He enjoyed the flurry of glory till he found out even his cup, water and food turned gold and more Tragic as he touched his daughter she turned unto gold !

Hence the submission
‘If you get all you will want, will you want all you will get?’

This greed for power and influence which Jesus rejected, which you so desire, will put you under pressure, people won’t Always be healed and you would want to perform, every lie Needs more lies, then conspiracy and conspirators ,off goes your innocence, you are right where you never wanted to be, history repeats itself, you are now what you once criticized !

Let the gospel be preached and taught, where signs and wonders happen give glory to God, when it’s yet to happen, preach still

Keep your emphasis as faith in Christ not in miracles and wonders.

Jesus didn’t always heal the sick nor did he heal all the sick nor always worked miracles, else where did the sick crowd in the book of acts emerge from, precisely the crippled fellow at the same temple Jesus taught at often !

Don’t put your self under undue pressure or influence by some fellow given to sensationalism and exaggeration,
Some prayer mountains are now filled with occultism and its influence, beware of your search for power !

To all genuine preachers of Christ

Next time anyone tells you to show signs, Reply with Jesus’s answer

Matthew 12:38-40 KJV
[38] Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
[39] But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: [40] For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Preach Christ, Gods greatest sign and power, Jesus raised from the dead

2 Timothy 2:8 KJV
[8] Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

This is our gospel! Hope this is clear

Let me know
